As we near the end of 2021 it is a common practice to start to set some goals and resolutions for the New Year. Let’s start with the right tools to set us in the direction of success!

This last week of the year is all about self-reflection.

  • How has your year been? Take a snapshot of your past year and list all the things you have learned. Stay away from labeling the year as a “bad year” or a “good year” or the lesson learned or the situations experienced as right or wrong. Simply reflect on your year without judgment. Take your time with this.
  • Were there things you are grateful you learned?
  • Were there experiences you wished you didn’t have to have gone through – yet when you reflect on them, you see that you have actually learned something about yourself?
  • Maybe you learned you are stronger than you gave yourself credit for? Were there personal reactions to situations that you surprised yourself with?
  • Were there things you may have wished you had done differently or looking at them now, very glad you handled them the way you did?

Self-reflecting on the past year gives us the ability to see and review in hindsight. Furthermore, if we can let go and release any guilt or shame around any past situation, we can then open ourselves up to new visions, goals, and possibilities. We can then take these new visions into the future as “mind-sight”.

When we don’t take the time to reflect on our past year, we blindly enter into the next year often creating, unintentionally the same mistakes with the same consequences.

Let’s not make the same choices. Let’s do the self-reflecting this year.

Once you have taken the time to self-reflect on your past year, you are much more open to asking yourself some key questions for the New Year.

Take some time this week to sit in contemplation and ask yourself the following questions.

  1. What is important to me? (your core values will come in nicely here)
  2. What would I like to bring more of into my life in 2022? (Create a good habit – example; A regular routine of Yoga & fitness or a regular meditation practice)
  3. What (habit, pattern, or behavior) am I ready to let go of in 2022? (Break a bad habit example; smoking, procrastination)
  4. Who or what do I want to be? (Example; healthy, confident, successful)

Write down your answers and reflect on what goals or resolutions you would like to bring into 2022.

This is step one:

  1. get clear on what is important to you,
  2. what you want to achieve,
  3. what you are ready to let go of and
  4. what it is you want!

Don’t worry about the how yet. This week is about reflection and clarity.

Here is the video recording of today’s class.  Enjoy!
