🌿 A Note Before You Listen…
This week’s Simply BE features another original Tap In video from June 2022.
While the video remains exactly as it was recorded, I’ve taken the opportunity to revisit and update the accompanying blog.
Over the past four years, my understanding of Ayurveda has continued to grow. What once felt like learning about nutrition has gradually become a much deeper appreciation for the incredible intelligence of the human body and its natural ability to heal, adapt, and find balance.
I hope this updated reflection offers you a fresh perspective – whether you’re discovering these teachings for the first time or revisiting them with me.
Enjoy the journey.
Strengthening Your Digestive Fire
Have you ever noticed that two people can eat the very same meal… yet one person feels energized afterwards, while the other feels bloated, sluggish, or uncomfortable?
Or perhaps you’ve experienced this yourself
Some days you eat a meal that leaves you feeling light, satisfied, and energized. Other days, even when you’ve chosen foods you believe are “healthy,” you simply don’t feel your best.
One of the things I’ve discovered through studying Ayurveda is that it may have less to do with what you’re eating… and more to do with how well you’re digesting it.
Meet Your Digestive Fire
In Ayurveda, the Sanskrit word Agni means fire.
More specifically, it refers to your digestive fire – your body’s ability to transform the food you eat into nourishment, energy, and vitality. One of my favourite Ayurvedic sayings is:
“When Agni is strong, we can turn poison into nectar. When Agni is weak, we can turn nectar into poison.”
It’s a powerful reminder that even the healthiest foods cannot fully support you if your digestive system isn’t able to process them well.
Your Body Is Always Communicating
A strong digestive system often leaves you feeling…
- Comfortable after meals
- Energized throughout the day
- Clear-minded
- Rested when we wake
- Regular in our digestion
When your digestive fire is struggling, you might notice…
- Bloating
- Heartburn
- Brain fog
- Low energy
- Feeling heavy after meals
Your body is always communicating with you.
The question is… Are you listening?
Small Choices Make a Big Difference
The beautiful thing about Ayurveda is that it doesn’t ask you to become perfect.
Instead, it invites you to become more aware.
Simple habits can gently support your digestive fire, such as:
- Eating slowly and mindfully.
- Choosing fresh, seasonal and colorful foods when possible.
- Drinking warm water or herbal tea with meals.
- Taking a few slow deep breaths before eating.
- Going for a gentle walk after a meal.
These aren’t rules.
They’re invitations.
Small choices that help your body do what it already knows how to do.
More Than Digestion
One of the reasons I love Ayurveda so much is because it reminds us that our body is incredibly intelligent. When you learn to support your digestion instead of fighting against it…
- Your energy improves.
- Your mind becomes clearer.
- Your body begins finding its way back toward balance.
Perhaps that’s why strengthening your digestive fire isn’t really about digestion at all. It’s about creating the conditions for your body to thrive.
Stay curious. Stay open. Simply BE.
Namaste my friends;
