Letting Go – Aligning the Ego with the Soul
Fall is here and nature is reminding us of her rhythm. The trees release their leaves naturally – to prepare for renewal. Every season has a lesson and a message, and right now, the invitation is simple but profound: let go.
Simple but not always easy. And if the ego is running the show – it is near impossible to let go. An unbalanced – often unaware ego, clings tightly – to the past, to old stories, to everything. We don’t need the Fall Equinox as an excuse to seek alignment – we want to be aligned on a regular basis, but this seasonal shift will highlight when and where we are out of balance. The equinox reminds us that holding on goes against the natural flow, while letting go – invites us back into harmony.
Last week, we dove into the root and crown chakra by learning the importance of grounding our energy into our physical body and at the same time connecting to a higher power. In this connection we have the ability to tap into our higher self and begin our day in an aligned state.
If you found this practice to be particularly difficult to do – you may want to shine some light on your ego – not to judge it, eradicate or over-throw it – but to become friends with it.
The ego is not the enemy – it is an essential part of who we are, who we have been and who we are becoming. We couldn’t survive without the ego – we just don’t want it in the driver’s seat.
Which leads us to this week’s dive into the solar plexus and heart chakra connection.
From Holding on to Holding Back
When the Solar Plexus chakra is out of balance, the ego runs the show. Instead of helping us shine, it weighs us down with:
- Past hurts and betrayals
- Old shame and blame
- Grievances and regrets
The ego clings to what is familiar – even if it’s painful – because it believes that control and repetition keep us safe. But really, holding on and trying to control everyone and everything – keeps us stuck in cycles that no longer serve us.
And here’s the paradox: the ego cannot let go on its own. Its very nature is to hold on.
Why We Need the Ego
Many teachings tell us to “transcend” or “dissolve” the ego. But the truth is, we need it. The ego is how we:
- Set goals and intentions
- Build confidence and take action
- Shape our unique path in the world
Without the ego, there’s no form, no drive, no way to bring soul wisdom into daily life. The work isn’t to get rid of it – it’s to align it.
Solar Plexus + Heart: A Sacred Partnership
This is where the Heart chakra enters. The heart – when balanced, carries forgiveness, compassion, and unconditional love. On its own, without the connection with the ego, the heart can stay in ideals without the courage to act. When the solar plexus and the heart are both unbalanced – there are many barriers built around both the ego and heart.
When these two centers align though, magic happens:
- The Soul leads.
- The ego no longer fights to stay in the past.
- The heart opens and roots us in love so that action moves us into the future, leading with compassion.
- Together, they create authentic personal power.
This alignment brings:
- Strength with compassion
- Assertiveness with kindness
- Boundaries with clarity
The Solar Plexus provides the fire, and the Heart provides the direction. The direction from fear to love.
Letting Go as Empowerment
Letting go doesn’t mean abandoning your drive or your dreams. It means releasing the weight of the past so you can move forward freely with more drive to achieve your dreams! It means letting go of old wounds, old habits, old stories and aligning with the Soul – so love, confidence and personal power can shine through the ego.
When the Solar Plexus and Heart are aligned, the ego takes its rightful seat as the passenger and the Soul drives. The ego (solar plexus) provides the focus, discipline and energy for action. The Soul (heart chakra) provides the wisdom, kindness and vision of love.
And it is from this partnership that we can truly let go of the past – not because we force ourselves to, but because we are finally anchored in something greater. We are no longer driven by old wounds. We are guided by love.
This is what it means to move forward into a new season with an open heart and an inner strength. This is how we step into a future where love runs the show.
This is how we truly begin to live from love without losing our strength. We become both grounded and guided, rooted and expansive.
Reflection for the Week:
Where in your life is the ego holding on to past hurts, and how might your heart bring forgiveness, compassion, or clarity to help you release it?
