Root Chakra Balancing to Achieve Success

A little background here for those who may not know what a Chakra is…

What is a Chakra?

A Chakra is a spinning wheel of active energy that each and every one of us has within our physical body. There are seven main ones that are all are parallel to the spine, and they run from the base of the spine up to the crown of the head. Each Chakra has certain qualities and collectively they carry our urges, emotions, habits and behaviours as well as the imprints of all that has happened to us in our lives. As the balance of these energy systems is directly related to the balance in our own lives it would be vital to understand that these Chakra’s get thrown off balance by our emotions, beliefs, negative self-talk and life circumstances that are beyond our control… thus creating imbalances in our life and our well-being. These next seven weeks will be about bringing awareness to each of these energy systems so that we can take conscious active steps to bring balance to them and ultimately succeed in achieving our goals or desire that we have.

The Root Chakra;

The Root Chakra is the foundation of all the other energy centers, it is located at the base of the spine and runs down the legs and into the feet. Its element is Earth so when we learn to balance this center it enables us to feel safe, stable and grounded. This Chakra anchors us into this experience of being human!

When our Root Chakra is not balanced it can and will block us with fear.

There are many characteristics of an over-active root, chakra but the one that is most relevant to hindering the success of achieving our goals is the resistance we have to change.

There are many characteristics of an under-active root chakra and the one that is most relevant to hindering the success of achieving our goals is the resistance we have to structure.

When we take active and conscious steps to achieve a healthy balance of both structure and change, this will create a healthy balanced root chakra, which can then lead to other benefits. Benefits as in feeling safe in our own body, trusting ourselves and our intuition and ultimately trusting in the flow of life.

Everything that we truly desire in this life comes to us through our physical body.

  • When we feel hungry, we desire food.
  • When we feel unwell, we desire wellness.
  • When we are hurting, we desire healing.
  • When we feel lonely, we desire companionship
  • When we struggle financially, we desire money.

This chakra really comes down to survival, and the choices we make to seek safety in what we desire.

When we take the steps to find structure in our life and are open to change, then the obstacles that are presented to us in our every day life have less power over us. They can be seen as lessons to be learned as apposed to problems to overcome. And this shift in perception keeps your root chakra balanced and the ability to trust yourself increases.

This is when we make better choices.

How do we find that balance between structure and being open to change?

First thing is to find structure by committing to a daily centering practice. This takes us back to last week’s Tap In & blog. Stillness, awareness, conscious action & reflection time. (See last week’s blog for more details)

We also learned last week that “intentions are the stepping stones to success” so every morning set an intention for yourself to take care of your physical body. Tune into your body, what does your body need?

Does your body need to;

  • Move
  • Stretch
  • Hydrate
  • Eat healthier food
  • Rest
  • Take a walk out in nature
  • Dance
  • Sleep
  • Be nurtured
  • Be strengthen
  • Be cocooned in a blanket
  • Cry, scream, laugh, feel
  • Stop drinking, smoking, shopping, gambling
  • Sit and meditate

What does your body need? Listen inward. Your body always has the answer, we just need to quieten the mind chatter long enough to hear it, feel it and honor it.

In my personal experience, my body speaks to me in many different ways. Aches, pains, headaches, insomnia, exhaustion and digestive issues to mention just a few. When I ignore these messages, they get louder and stronger.

I know when I am not feeding my body well… because it tells me.

I know when I am working too much… because my body tells me.

I know when I am worrying to much about things, I have no control over… because my body tells me.

I know when I need to get myself out for a walk-in nature… because my body tells me.

When we learn to listen to our body, we get lots of insights and then we get to make a choice.

Do I want to continue working myself into a headache? Or will I listen to my body when it asks for me to take a break?

The choice is mine.

Do I want to continue eating foods that bring discomfort to my body? Or will I listen to my body and feed it well?

The choice is mine.

The choice I make will either build trust within myself or keep myself at odds with my body physically, mentally, emotionally, energetically & spiritually.

Some days I need to ask myself, isn’t the price too high for me to ignore these messages?

When I ask myself this, I know I am ready to make some changes, to find the balance.

I will need some structure in my life to make these changes and make better choices. I will need some flexibility in my life to learn to go with the flow of change all around me. and when I bump up against some obstacles or failures, I will need a solid practice to keep me grounded and open to the lesson.

Defining Success of our Goals in our Root Chakra

  1. Every morning, decide on the intention you wish to set for your physical body that day.
  2. Write it in a journal. (Put it in present tense) Example; Today, I feed my body only healthy food OR today, I do Leslie’s Yoga class 😊
  3. I would suggest you program it into your phone as a reminder at some point.
  4. Sit and ground yourself in stillness for a desired set time (minimum 5 mins) silently affirming your intention and visualize success at the end of your day.
  5. Awareness that obstacles may arise in your day and your willingness to shift with the flow.
  6. Conscious Action; consciously make the choices that support your intention throughout the day.
  7. Evening reflection. Sit again (5-10 mins) and reflect on your day, any obstacles, the choices you made, and how you feel about it all. This is a time of non-judgement and pure reflection.

Notice how your mind, body and soul come into alignment when you treat your body well and honor it’s needs.

FYI; Every Hatha Yoga class on Mondays at 10:30am we dive further into the message of our Tap In sessions. To try a class either live or recorded contact me at leslie@wellnessdefined.ca
