Rooted and Guided

Throughout my twenty plus years of chakra study and these last few years of energy medicine, I’ve come to understand and experience the chakra system on a whole new level. These energy centers don’t just function on their own – they work together. Some even form powerful partnerships. When we understand this wisdom – not just intellectually, but intuitively and energetically – everything begins to make sense. It brings clarity to so much of our human experience.

Let’s take a look at the Root and Crown chakras – a pairing that might seem like opposites at first glance. The root chakra grounds us here in this earth, and when balanced – it grounds us in safety and stability, while the crown chakra, when balanced connects us to higher wisdom and Spirit. Yet, when these two communicate – we are reminded that we are both human and divine, both embodied and guided, and both rooted and guided.

However, when these two are blocked, unbalanced and therefore unable to fully function and communicate – we find ourselves stuck in fear and frustration – stuck in limiting thoughts and beliefs – and attached to life needing to unfold in a certain way.

Root Chakra – Safety in the Human

We often look to the outside world for our sense of safety – the right job, the right home, the right relationship. But the truth is: feeling safe in this life, is all about feeling safe in our body – and this is an inside job. It doesn’t come from what surrounds us, or from what we have; it comes from how we care for ourselves, our body, our energy and our mind.

When we tend to the human – our health, our rhythms, our basic needs – something shifts. Fear begins to soften. The mind quiets. And suddenly, life feels a little steadier, even when the world around us hasn’t changed or even seems to be in chaos.

This week, I invite you to notice:

  • Are you honoring your body’s need for rest, movement, nourishment and grounding?
  • Do you allow yourself rhythms that create consistency, or do you rush from one demand to the next?
  • Can you practice intuitive awareness – eating mindfully, listening to what foods feel nourishing, moving your body in ways that strengthen and restore, and resting when it asks for pause?

Root practices can be beautifully simple: movement that builds strength, yoga to release tension, meditation to breathe into stillness, spending time in nature and slowing down enough to listen to what the body truly needs.

Safety doesn’t mean controlling every circumstance. It means cultivating stability within, with openness and curiosity about what our body is asking for versus what we’ve been conditioned to believe it needs. And this is where the Crown’s wisdom helps us listen more deeply.

Crown Chakra – Beyond Attachment

On the other end of the spectrum, the Crown chakra opens us to higher wisdom and a higher connection. But here’s the key: we can’t float off into the clouds without roots in the earth.

The Crown isn’t about checking out of the human experience. It’s about remembering that we are more than the conditioned identities we’ve been carrying. It’s loosening our grip on who we’ve been told we “Should” be – and reconnecting with the truth of who we already are – it is connecting with our higher self.

This is why it is important to observe and question our thoughts and beliefs – with practice and presence, we begin tapping into the highest possible version of ourselves on a regular basis.

Listen to these words by Vex King:
“As we begin to observe and witness our thoughts, we realize we cannot be the thought and the observer at the same time. The observed cannot be the observer. If you are the subject, you cannot be the object.” (Read that again… the observer is your higher self – the thoughts are often coming from our conditioning)

When the Crown is open, we step back from the noise of the mind and rest in the awareness that observes. From this higher place, wisdom flows in. It speaks directly to the body, activating the innate intelligence of our human body – an intelligence that’s often underestimated or overlooked.

RootCrown Partnership

The Root and Crown may seem like opposites, but together they create balance.

  • Root: When rooted, we are safe on the earth. But when the world feels unsafe, fear can surge. Without an inner anchor, fear can grow into anger, hatred and division. The Root chakra reminds us that safety begins inside – through breath, body and self-care.
  • Crown: When rooted, we don’t just survive; we expand. The Crown connects us to our higher self and a wisdom that transcends fear, conditioning, labels and the divisions of the world.

Together, these two create an embodied Spirit: not floating, not fearful – but grounded and connected.

This Week’s Intention

  1. Ground. Create safety inside yourself with grounding practices.
  2. Connect to your higher self. (The highest possible version of you)
  3. Take care of your human body. Move it, stretch it, rest it – feed it nourishing food.
  4. Open to releasing attachments and connecting with a higher wisdom.
  5. Trust that guidance is available.

And remember: this isn’t about throwing away everything you’ve been conditioned to believe. It’s about loosening the grip of attachment so you can see with fresh eyes. With the support of both Root and Crown, you begin to discern what truly serves your body, your energy, your life the current moment and your soul – not from fear or conditioning, but from intuition and inner wisdom.
