Have you ever thought of your thoughts as weapons used against yourself or someone else, sabotaging the very things you really want in this life?

Have you ever felt stuck in a cycle of frustration, judgment, or negativity? Do you often feel like the world is working against you? Or that nothing ever works out in your favor? Or maybe your life is pretty good but it’s just that one thing that you wish could be better. As a student of A Course in Miracles I am learning at a whole new and deeper level that our thoughts create the way we experience life. This is great news if your thoughts are pretty positive. It will be frustrating though if you are stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts and expectations.

The good news is; if your thoughts shape your reality… you can change any experience by shifting your thought patterns. This happens by giving up attack thoughts.

What Are Attack Thoughts?

Attack thoughts are any thoughts based on fear, judgment, blame, shame, criticism, vengeance or resentment. Attack thoughts make you see the world as a place to fear. You will see a world full of hostility, unfairness, and ultimately overflowing with problems. For example:

  • “People are selfish and rude.”
  • “Nothing ever works out for me.”
  • “We are living in scary times”
  • “I’ll never get ahead”
  • “That person is deliberately trying to hurt me.”

Attack thoughts are the source of every block and every barrier that stands between you and your true happiness. Notice your thoughts because the world you currently see is shaped by these thoughts – your thoughts! If your mind is full of attack thoughts, you will perceive a world of fear and conflict and you will block a world full of goodness and happiness from entering into your life. If you are willing to shift your thinking though, your experience of the world will change, too.

Recognize That Your Thoughts Shape the World See

What you are seeing in the world all around you is completely shaped by the thoughts you think. Your mind projects its own meaning onto everything.

Think of two people stuck in traffic: One is frustrated and thinking “This is going to ruin my whole day!” and guess what? It will absolutely ruin their whole day! The other person is listening to music, enjoying the moment and not allowing it to affect them in a negative way. The situation is the same, but their perception is different. Each person has a choice as the outside situation is exactly the same for both – it is the inner state that makes all the difference.

Every thought you think either reinforces fear or love. Every thought you have is either helping and supporting you or it’s hurting and discouraging you. If your thoughts are fearful, they will shape your reality that way. But you can choose differently. You can choose loving thoughts and in this choice your reality can change too.

This isn’t just a choice you make for yourself. It is a choice that will affect others around you and their experience as well.

Understanding That Your Thoughts Affect Others

Even if you keep your thoughts to yourself, they hold an energy that is seen and felt by others around you. Your thoughts are not private. Whether you realize it or not, without saying a word, your energy affects others. Have you ever walked into a room and immediately felt tension – even before anyone spoke? That’s because all thoughts carry energy.

When you hold attack thoughts, others feel it. When you practice thoughts of love, appreciation, peace, and acceptance, that energy is felt by others too.

Recognize That Attack Thoughts Create a World of Vengeance

When you see the world as unfair, hostile or full of fear, it’s because your own attack thoughts are shaping that perception.

For example, if you expect people to be rude, you will find confirmation of that belief everywhere. If you expect kindness, you will start noticing kindness more often. The world reflects what is in your mind.

Make the Decision to See and Think Differently

What if you made a commitment to yourself to change your thoughts? What if you made a commitment to yourself to change your perception? It won’t happen overnight and it certainly won’t happen by accident – you have to want to see the world differently and think differently about it. You have to want to practice thinking and seeing it differently.

This is the moment where you consciously decide: “I no longer want to see through the eyes of fear. I choose to see through the eyes of love.” This is a conscious decision to give up attack thoughts and choose to see the world differently. Choose to see the world with your heart and less with your physical eyes.

Give up Attack Thoughts to Free Yourself

In A Course in Miracles; there is a lesson that offers the ultimate key: “I can escape from the world I see by giving up attack thoughts.”

This is where real transformation happens. The way to free yourself from stress, frustration, and suffering is not by controlling the outside world – it’s by changing your mind!

Practical Ways to Give Up Attack Thoughts:

  1. Notice your thoughts. When you feel upset, ask: “What thought is making me feel this way?”
  2. Question the thought. Ask yourself: “Is this absolutely true? Could there be another way to see this?”
  3. Choose a new thought. Instead of “That person is rude,” try “Maybe they’re having a hard day.”
  4. Say to yourself: “I am willing to see this differently.” Even if you don’t know how yet, this opens the door for change.

You Ultimately Have the Power to See a Different World

The world you experience is not set in stone. Knowing it is shaped by your thoughts, gives you the freedom to change them and your life. If your life is not going the way you had hoped it would – change your thoughts around your life. That one thing that just isn’t going your way… change your thoughts around it!

If you want more peace and joy in your life, the way to get there is not by changing other people or any external circumstances, but by giving up the attack thoughts about the people or situation and choosing to see with love.

Attack thoughts are what is keeping you from everything you want to experience in this life! Whether those attack thoughts are focused at yourself, a particular person or situation or at the world as a whole – any attack thought will keep you stuck in a cycle of problems.

Solutions Arise When You Give Up Attack Thoughts.

If you don’t believe it – give it a try for the next full month – but only if you want to believe it. If you don’t want to believe it – nothing will change your current perception or reality.

Each moment gives you a choice: Fear or love? Judgment or understanding? Attack or peace? The more you choose peace in your mind, the more peaceful your world will become.
